Chronicles of Jasmine 4

“Jaz, don’t you think it’s too early to talk about Sex!”.

When we got to my parent’s house, he turned off the engine and turned to me. “Tobs” he started… I interjected saying; “Whatever it is Temi, I don’t want to hear it and please, if you have any more bright ideas about me having a baby for you, keep them to yourself. I’m really not interested”.

I got out of the car before he could come out to open the door for me, and slammed the door. I simply walked into my house without looking back. The next morning a bunch of roses, champagne and a card arrived for me. The card simply read… “I am sorry…”

“Hey, who dey this house?” I heard Jaz, as if in a dream. I wasn’t in the mood to talk but answered never the less. Cos knowing Jaz, she was going to waltz in anyway. Yes waltz, Jaz never walked or strolled in… no, she waltzed.

I was still in my teddy bear nightwear, clutching my huge teddy to myself with my throw pillows numbering a bit over a dozen. They were all over my bed and floor. As Jaz came into my room, she took one good look at me and said; “Go get a man girl, and leave that live size teddy of yours.” It won’t keep you warm in bed and certainly, it won’t satisfy your urges.

“Jaz, don’t you think it’s too early to talk about sex. Don’t you think of anything else? There is so much more out there that is fun and interesting”; I said. “Like what?” she shot back. ‘Eh Tobs tell me?’ Anyway I didn’t come for that, how was last night? I bet it was smoking!

Must we talk now, Jaz? I have a meeting in 4 hours time and I’m yet to finish the report am working on. Well, I shall have you know there is so much more out there than work, she said, mimicking me. “Loosen up Tobs, you are not an old woman and you are certainly no dim wit”. You are one of the most beautiful and intelligent ladies I have ever met.

Is it because of your experience with Temi, you have refused to live life? It won’t wait for you, you know. Baby you have to try and get on without him; she said looking at me sadly. “Or wait a minute”; her eyes changing from the sad look she had on a moment ago, to one of intense anger.

Did he upset you again? Cos this time Tobs, I am going to have it out with him. I looked at my friend of many years and remembered why I liked Jaz. She was a caring person although for sometime now she had buried that side of her and was almost unrecognizable. I knew it had to do with Greg and I hoped I wasn’t kidding myself where Temi was concerned. Cos, looking at Jaz, I saw how easy it was to turn on men.

Men? Lets talk about them. Are they worse than women, when it comes to lies? I think both men and women can be terrible when it comes to the game of love. If a woman is in love with a man she can do anything for him. Give her entire possession if she has to, but the same woman can sell her soul to the devil, to deal with a man. Especially if she feels, she’s been unjustly treated.

Now, this does not apply to all females but most will do this. Temi and Greg should be grateful that Jaz and I do not belong in that group. Yeah, Jaz is crazy but not that crazy, thank God for that. I tell my brothers after God who created us, the next set of people men should fear is women. I tell them the “fear of women, is the beginning of wisdom”

It’s only a foolish man who would “dare” a woman. If you want to live long adhere to this advice. Even the holy book says there is nothing as bad as a woman scorned. So guys, watch your back. But what about men, I think they are just as deceitful and sometimes “wicked”. Men want to eat their cake and have it.

Oh yes, you want Nike, Amina and Nneka… what is it with you guys anyway? What are you looking for? Shouldn’t it be the inner beauty? In perching here and there, you would loose that particular female that would have complimented you. Temi and Greg were gullible and in the process lost gems (Jaz and me) that would have added value to their lives. Jaz believes that men are “useless” but I think ladies are just as bad.

I mean Funke knew Temi had a woman in his life, but did that stop her? No, like I said earlier, the brazen way women go after men especially the successful ones will make Delilah cringe in shame.

In the past, a girl will wait for a guy to approach her no matter how much she “loved” him and she would respect boundaries, especially if she knows he has someone serious in his life, but not anymore.

Infact, just as a man will keep chains of girlfriends deceiving himself, thinking the woman in his life is not aware of his antics, women now date many guys at the same time.

Do men think they are smart? Watch out for that girl with that seemingly innocent look. She’s playing the game just like you, but even better. Now, a girl takes from an “Aristo” as we call Sugar Daddies and gives to her small boy friend. She dresses well and spends cash on you but you don’t know how she gets it.

Of course there will always be an uncle or aunty somewhere “sending” money as she would always claim. Sometimes I think men get what they deserve. A friend of mine asked me sometime ago why women were so pretentious? I told him that when you meet a girl that is “perfect” then something is wrong, cos there is no such thing.

Yeah to some, Jaz might be crazy and on a suicide mission (I tell her that if any of those wives of the men she dates catches her, all hell will be let loose), but she says men are not worth the trouble. You could say she’s a cynic when it comes to men.

Tobs! Tobs! Hello, you have that vacant expression on your face again. What are you thinking about? Are you trying to cook up a story to cover up what Temi did? I would know. You know I’m a Psychologist amongst other things, so don’t freaking lie to me!

Once again, what happened with Temi? Sorry Jaz I drifted off for a moment there. It went well until we got to the point where Temi asked me to have a baby for him. What! Jaz exclaimed. So what did you say, Tobs? I hope you gave him a good telling off. What nonsense! Is he insane?

Jaz went on and on using unprintable words on Temi. Calm down Jaz, no need to get all worked up. He’s gone now, hopefully for good. It had better be Tobs. I remember what a wreck you were, when he broke your heart the first time and it breaks my heart to see you hurting.

Look Jaz, I said I am ok. I know you got my back and I’m so thankful that you are on my side. You see why I don’t take men seriously anymore. Tobs, I can’t allow any man put me through what Greg put me through. And what Temi did to you too. It’s not worth it girl. It’s really not worth it. We lapsed into silence. Two girls, who have shared the pain of loving and loosing the men they loved, almost more than life itself.

Look Tobs, I‘m not going to leave you tonight. Finish your report, but tonight I am going to spoil you. I won’t allow you sink into depression. I’m coming for you at 8pm. “So, tell your fairy godmother you won’t be coming home tonight” she said referring to my mum.

J-a-z! You have that look… what do you have in mind? Please I don’t want to be part of any crazy game. “Crazy game?” she exclaimed. Yes, I know you Jaz. The last time... you remember what you did?

“Don’t worry Tobs, I know say you no like surprise”. Jaz, you set me up with two guys! I am not a nympho. “Well, you for at least try chat with them. You sat like a dummy through out”. I ‘m not into the “groupie” thing Jaz. Now you really have to leave so I can concentrate on my report. See you at 8pm.

I took a moment to reflect on how different Jaz and I were; yet we were good friends. Jaz was a good friend but a terrible person to cross. Knowing Jaz, whatever she had planned would not be boring. I give that to her. Jaz sure knows how to rock a party.
